Religious experience is considered as one of the most important issues in religious studies in recent centuries. The degree of experience-related reality is raised as a fundamental question in religious experience - especially mystical experience. Intuition, which is considered a type of mystical experience, is considered one of the prominent topics in Islamic philosophy and mysticism. This issue has a special and fundamental place, especially in the intellectual system of Shahab al-Din Suhrawardi. The present study, which has been conducted using a descriptive-analytical method and referring to the works of the Western philosopher and various books of Sheikh Ishraq, focuses on comparing religious experience from the perspective of William James with mystical intuition from the perspective of Suhrawardi. According to the results of the present study, these two have important similarities and differences. Some of the most important similarities between the two are ineffability and being personal. Some of the most important differences between the two approaches are the difference in the method of knowing truth, the difference in the origin of its acquisition and the place of its occurrence. It is also found that religious experience is both a mystical experience
