The expansion of the Islamic future studies approach and the emergence of various perspectives and theories in this field raises the concern that if Islamic future studies aim to function as a systematic social science responsible for envisioning the future based on Islamic and Indigenous culture, it must be structured according to epistemological principles and criteria. This research, based on document analysis, systematic review, and the description and investigation of the viewpoints and works of scholars in the field of Islamic future studies, employs two epistemological foundations-“logical epistemology” and the eight vertices (ro'us thamaniyah)-and inspired by Sorel’s cognitive-normative framework, compares and aligns these views and works with the introduced criteria from these two Muslim epistemological traditions. Accordingly, if Islamic future studies are to be introduced as a science, they must encompass a comprehensive and coherent structure of philosophical foundations, ratification principles, axioms, definition and nature, subject, main issues, purpose, methodology, and methods. Findings from reviewing the works in Islamic future studies indicate that despite the existence of various viewpoints, each of these works conforms in some way to certain epistemological criteria, and a unified foundation, subject, purpose, knowledge system, orientation system, and methodology dominate these works. Such characteristics in Islamic future studies depict a relatively coherent image of a discipline at the pre-scientific stage.
